What is Reiki?
Reiki is a large current of Life Force, which is what keeps us alive. Reiki treatment pours a generous amount of life force into the body, bringing balance and reduction or freedom from pain or dysfunction. In Reiki treatment, this Life Force bathes the client with this wholesome energy. When our life force is full and flowing, we are functional, well, and happy. When our life force is waning or blocked, disease and dysfunction occur. This life-supportive infusion can be done on oneself or another.
As Norma Jean's hands contact her client's body, they provide added support for their physical function, mental acuity, emotional well-being and spiritual balance. This added fuel for the individual may be felt as warmth, an increased well-being, or as one client put it, "Simply delicious!" Norma Jean is a seasoned healer for every systemic condition, especially cancer - before, during or after standard medical treatment. |
Reiki literally translates as "the energy of the soul" or "the breath of the spirit" and carries the frequency or vibration of wholeness. This is the life force. Reiki is vibrational or "energy" treatment. Everything in existence has vibration, a vibrational field, and a vibrational frequency.
How does it work?
By accessing a generous Life Force for the client, through Norma Jean's hands - or at distance. The source of life force is not personal; it abounds in life forms of nature all around us, and flows naturally through our hands after our energetic "gates" are opened in a two day Reiki Course. A deeply relaxed state is attained as the "fuel" or life force of the body is fortified.
Where does Reiki treatment fit with standard medical care?

Current health care paradigms are increasingly engaging Complementary methods of treatment. The effectiveness of Reiki treatment for a broad spectrum of symptoms - from counteracting stress to supporting cancer patients - render this treatment an excellent partner with allopathic medicine. Any issue of imbalance, pain, swelling, surgical procedure or trauma can be positively impacted, balanced and homeostasis at least somewhat restored. For instance, patients receiving chemotherapy have been found to have significantly reduced side effects with consistent Reiki treatment, and their white blood cell count and and immune systems substantially supported.
What can I expect from treatment?
Improvement. When Dr. Nassim Assefi, principal investigator of NIH research testing Efficacy of Reiki Treatment for Fibromyalgia presented to her colleagues at Harborview Hospital, she said, "Why should we explore such a method as Reiki healing? Because it works." She had observed most positive results for a breast cancer patient and attended Norma Jean's Reiki Course at Harvard. Dr. Assefi then kept her promise to return to Seattle and do some work with Norma Jean.
A full treatment is done with the recipient fully clothed, on a treatment table, being thoroughly treated on the head, neck, torso, back and auxiliary positions with the practitioner remaining quite still on each position for two to five minutes. Short mini treatments have reliably produced highly effective results also. Giving and receiving Reiki treatment is predictably integrative for both the practitioner and client.

Self-treatment provides the essential core of self-care, providing a concentrated rest, release from pain for symptomology, renewal, and self-reflection and awareness.
